Site description La reserva Cayos Miskitos se considera importante básicamente por los siguientes aspectos: • Es reconocida como Reserva de la Biosfera por el Comité Internacional de Coordinación del Programa sobre el Hombre y la Biosfera de UNESCO . • Comprende una de las mayores extensiones de pastos marinos en el Caribe, entremezclado con arrecifes de coral, así como una diversidad de ambientes costeros siendo una de las áreas costero-marinas biológicamente más ricas en América tropical. • Mantiene una alta diversidad de hábitats, que conforman zonas de alimentación, reproducción y crianza para la sobrevivencia de tortugas verdes, camarones, langostas, manatíes, aves acuáticas, delfines, peces, corales y muchos otros organismos de importancia comercial.
