Site description El macizo de Peñas Blancas, un conjunto de cerros que se elevan unos 1,750 metros de altura sobre el nivel del mar, se encuentra ubicado al este-noreste de las ciudades de Matagalpa y Jinotega en el límite entre ambos departamentos. Forma parte de la llamada "cordillera Isabelia", una alineación de cumbres que sirve de línea divisoria entre los afluentes de los ríos Bocay y Coco y los afluentes del río Tuma. Daso a su aislamiento y altura presenta las condiciones para albergar espcies endemicas
