Site description Localizado no extremo oeste do Paraná, o Parque Nacional do Iguaçu resguarda o maior remanescente contínuo de Mata Atlântica inteiramente contido em uma unidade de conservação de proteção integral. Nos limites do parque com a Argentina, próximo à cidade de Foz do Iguaçu, estão as mundialmente famosas cataratas do trecho final do rio Iguaçu, que anualmente atraem milhares de turistas à região. O clima local é úmido, sem estação seca definida. A vegetação predominante no parque, embora luxuriante, carece do caráter sempre-verde típico das florestas litorâneas e é classificada como floresta estacional semidecidual, sendo rica em epífitas, lianas e bambus. Nos setores mais elevados da parte norte do parque existem trechos razoavelmente extensos de mata com araucária. A cobertura florestal da área é contígua à do vizinho Parque Nacional Iguazú, na Argentina.
