Site description Apresentando relevo formado por colinas e morros graníticos relativamente baixos, essa área compreende uma extensa rede de remanescentes florestais que ocupa a metade leste dos municípios de Taperoá e Nilo Peçanha e a metade oeste dos municípios de Ituberá e Igrapiúna, a oeste da rodovia BA-650. A floresta ombrófila densa é a formação vegetal dominante, ocorrendo, localmente, o contato com os extensos manguezais (formações pioneiras) da baixada costeira adjacente. Parte da área pertence à Plantações Michelin da Bahia Ltda., empresa dedicada à exploração de látex em extensos seringais. Como parte da política ambiental dessa empresa, cerca de 1.450 ha de florestas nativas são protegidas em Igrapiúna e Ituberá. Parte da IBA encontra-se dentro dos limites da APA Estadual do Pratigi, criada em 1998 e recentemente ampliada.
