Ornithological information Dos especies endémicas con hábitat restringido habitan esta IBA. El Guabairo (Caprimulgus noctitherus), una especie en estado crítico de extinción, anida y reside en esta IBA. La Reinita de Bosque Enano (Dendroica angelae), una especie clasificada como vulnerable. Las especies endémicas que habitan el área son: el Pájaro Bobo Mayor (Coccyzus vieilloti), el Múcaro Común (Megascops nudipes), el Zumbador Verde (Anthracothorax viridis), el Zumbadorcito de Puerto Rico (Chlorostilbon maugaeus), el San Pedrito (Todus mexicanus), el Carpintero (Melanerpes portoricensis), el Juí (Myiarchus antillarum), el Bienteveo (Vireo latimeri), la Reinita Mariposera (Dendroica adelaidae), el Comeñame (Loxigilla portoricensis), la Llorosa (esospingus speculiferus) y la Reina Mora (Spindalis portoricensis). LC Otras especies que también cumplen con las categorías son: la Paloma Perdiz de Martinica (Geotrygon mystacea), el Zumbador Dorado (Anthracothorax dominicus), el Bobito (Contopus latirostris), el Zorzal Pardo (Margarops fuscatus) y el Jilguero (Euphonia musica). En esta IBA se encuentra la población más alta de la subespecie de Puerto Rico del Gavilán de Sierra (Accipiter striatus venator).
Site description La IBA de Maricao y Susúa se encuentra en el área central oeste de Puerto Rico, entre los municipios de Maricao, San Germán, Yauco y Sabana Grande.
