Ornithological information Se conocen 111 especies de aves presentes en Cerros de Amotape, que incluyen especies amenazadas y endémicas. No se dispone de información sobre las poblaciones.
Site description El Parque Nacional Cerros de Amotape se encuentra ubicado en los departamentos de Tumbes y Piura, en las provincias de Tumbes, Contralmirante Villar y Sullana. Presenta cuatro zonas de vida con una variedad de asociaciones vegetales, entre las que predominan el ceibal, el chaparral y el algarrobal. La topografía está influenciada por las estribaciones de la cordillera de los Amotapes, con presencia de profundos cañones, barrancos y quebradas. Dentro del Parque se encuentran restos arqueológicos como el de Rica Playa. La zona ha sido objeto de evaluaciones ornitológicas por D. y E. Tallman en 1972 (Schulenberg y Parker 1981) y por Whiffin y Sadgrove (2001), en colaboración con ProAves Perú. ProNaturaleza también realiza proyectos en la zona. Entre 1996 y 2000, el PROFONANPE desarrolló el proyecto "Conservación de la biodiversidad del Parque Nacional Cerros de Amotape".

Other biodiversity Algunas especies arbóreas apreciadas como maderables son frecuentes en la zona, como el Cedro (Cedrela sp.), el Ébano (Ziziphus thyrsiflora), el Guayacán (Tabebuia billbergii), el Madero (Tabebuia chrysantha), el Hualtaco (Loxopterygium huasango) y el Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens). Entre los mamíferos mayores globalmente amenazados se ha reportado la presencia de Mazama americana (DD), Lontra longicaudis (DD), Odocoileus virginianus y Sciurus stramineus.
Management considerations Las principales amenazas identificadas son la tala de árboles, especialmente para parqueterías de Sullana, y el sobrepastoreo en los límites del Parque.
Protection status El Parque Nacional Cerros de Amotape fue establecido el 22 de julio de 1975 mediante Decreto Supremo No 0800-75-AG. Junto con la Zona Reservada de Tumbes, el Santuario Nacional Los Manglares de Tumbes y el Coto de Caza El Angolo conforman la Reserva de Biosfera del Noroeste.
