Ornithological information The site is important for steppic species and wildfowl. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Tetrax tetrax (22 resident pairs) and Otis tarda (14-27 resident pairs).

Management considerations Threats include over-exploitation of water resources, urban development, river canalization, and droughts which lead to the lagoons drying out.
Protection status National None International Partial250 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Lagunas de Alcázar de San Juan, 250 ha). 8,800 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Humedales de la Mancha, 11,520 ha).
