Ornithological information Globally Threatened species found at the site include Swan Goose Anser cygnoides (EN), Pallas’s Fish-eagle Haliaeetus leucoryphus (VU), Eastern Imperial Eagle Aquila heliaca (VU), White-naped Crane Grus vipio (VU) and Great Bustard Otis tarda (VU). The site supports at least 1% of the flyway populations of the following congregatory waterbirds: Common Goldeneye Bucephala clangula; Ruddy Shelduck Tadorna ferruginea; Mallard Anas platyrhynchos; Green-winged Teal A. crecca; Northern Lapwing Vanellus vanellus; and Common Crane Grus grus.
Site description The site is located in the south-east of Teshig soum, and comprises many small lakes plus one larger lake, called Khargal. Several small streams enter Khargal Lake but there is no outfl ow. This lake is rich in aquatic vegetation. There are about 20 small lakes, grouped close to the soum centre. They are all connected to each other, and eventually drain into the Eg River. Bird habitats include reed-fringed lake shores and wet meadows with tall grasses. A large area of agricultural land lies close to these lakes. Livestock herding is also common in the surrounding area.

Other biodiversity Grey Wolf Canis lupus, Red Fox Vulpes vulpes, Corsac Fox V. corsac and Siberian Marmot Marmota sibirica (EN) are found in the habitats surrounding the lakes.
