Site description Gunung Mutis is the biggest mountain forest in western Timor and it has Eucalyptus urophylla vegetation (MacKinnon et.al. 1982, Coates et.al. 1997, Lesmana et.al. 2000).

Protection status Proposed for the first time as Wildlife Sanctuary (10000 ha) (MacKinnon et.al. 1982). Declared as Nature Reserve (12000 ha) based on SK Menteri Kehutanan No. 89/Kpts-II/1983 (Monk et.al. 1997, Lesmana et.al. 2000). Gunung Mutis Nature Reserve proposed to be extended to 4000 ha (BKSDA VII 1997, Monk et.al. 1997). Gunung Muntis and Gunung Timau are proposed by WWF to be merged.
