Burung Indonesia (Affiliate)

Site description Gunung Mutis is the biggest mountain forest in western Timor and it has Eucalyptus urophylla vegetation (MacKinnon 1982, Coates 1997, Lesmana 2000).

Key Biodiversity The restricted-range bird in this area dominated by highland species such as Chestnut-backed Thrush Zoothera dohertyi and Olive-headed Lorikeet Trichoglossus euteles (Lesmana 2000).

Protection status Proposed for the first time as Wildlife Sanctuary (10000 ha) (MacKinnon 1982). Declared as Nature Reserve (12000 ha) based on SK Menteri Kehutanan No. 89/Kpts-II/1983 (Monk 1997, Lesmana 2000). Gunung Mutis Nature Reserve proposed to be extended to 4000 ha (BKSDA VII 1997, Monk 1997). Gunung Muntis and Gunung Timau are proposed by WWF to be merged.
