Ornithological information Five from six globally threatened species live in this area (Lesmana et.al. 2000). New discovery in this century for Wetar Ground-dove Gallicolumba hoedtii also from this area. Follow up survey is needed especially for Timor Black Pigeon Turacoena modesta, Timor Imperial Pigeon Ducula cineracea, Yellow-crested Cockatoo Cacatua sulphurea, Wetar Ground-dove Gallicolumba hoedtii and Timor Green Pigeon Treron psittacea. Two of new species for Timor Island is Black-eared Cuckoo Chrysococcyx osculans and Eyebrowed Thrush Turdus obscurus live in this area. This area is one of the most threatened site in Timor.
Site description The topography is hilly. The forest extends from altitude 200 m asl.

Management considerations Burning forest, hunting and livestock grazing at forest area (MacKinnon et.al 1982, Lesmana et.al 2000)
Protection status 15000 ha of this area is proposed as a Wildlife Sanctuary (MacKinnon et.al 1982). WWF proposed to merged Gunung Muntis with Timau as a National Park.
