Site description An Islands 80 km off coast of Riau province mainland.

Key Biodiversity This area selected as secondary endemic bird area because of the existence of Silvery Wood-Pigeon Columba argentina (Stattersfield et.al.1998).Although the islands in east of Sumatra (including Bangka and Belitung in South Sumatra) support some lowland endemic bird sub-species but there is no significant value to showed the importanceof this area. The species that probably important is Silvery Wood-Pigeon Columba argentina, which also recorded in Karimun Besar, Batam, Bintan and Kepulauan Lingga. The area is given a secondary area status for endemic bird area based on the existence of those species.Last study in Batam and Bintan (Rajathurai 1996, Lim 1997) added more species on the record, but not for significant species. The "important" species that still live in Batam and Bintan were Great-billed Heron Ardea sumatrana, Grey-headed Fish-Eagle Ichtyhophaga ichthyaetus, Malaysian Plover Charadrius peronii, Far-Eastern Curlew Numenius madagascariensis, Cinnamon-headed Green-Pigeon Treron fulvicollis, Large Green-Pigeon Treron capellei, and Mangrove Pitta Pitta megarhyncha, but not for Silvery Wood-Pigeon Columba argentina. Although remaining of natural habitat in Batam and Bintan very small or probability for Karimun Island, with the result that area not covered by Endemic Bird Area criteria.Follow-up survey is still needed mainly to find out Silvery Wood-Pigeon Columba argentina.
