Site description Located in Lijiang County, north-west Yunnan. Yulong Xueshan is the main submit of the Hengduan Shan’s Yunling ranges. Lijiang City lies 30 km south-east of Yulong Xueshan, and the plateau around the city is at c.2,400 m and is a major agricultural area. The Jinsha Jiang river valley runs to the north-west of Yulong Xueshan, and the vertical difference between the water surface and the summit is 3,000 m.

Other biodiversity Nationally protected plants include Psammosilene tunicoides, Coptis teeta and Torreya yunnanensis. Animals include Neofelis nebulosa, Panthera pardus, Felis temmincki, Ailurus fulgens, Selenarctos thibetanus and Macaca mulatta.
Conservation response Established as a provincial-level nature reserve (26,000 ha) in 1984.
