Site description Located 30 km south of Da’an City and 5 km west of Changshan Town. Chagan Hu is the tenth largest freshwater lake in China, and is the most important fishery and reed-production area in Jilin Province. During the migration seasons more than 50,000 individual birds are estimated to occur in the IBA.

Other biodiversity The area lies within the historical ranges of Procapra gutturosa, Canis lupus, Vulpes vulpes and Mustela sibirica, but their numbers have declined.
Conservation response Established as a provincial-level nature reserve in 1986.
