Ornithological information Se ha registrado un total de 179 especies pertenecientes a 54 familias (SAO, in litt.). Se destaca la presencia de Hypopyrrhus pyrohypogaster, Chloropipo fl avicapilla y del Musguerito Gargantilla (Iridosornis porphyrocephala) (Renjifo et al. 2002).
Site description La IBA San Sebastián se localiza al sur del departamento de Antioquia, sobre la vertiente oriental de la cordillera Central. Forma parte de la jurisdicción de los municipios de Caldas y El Retiro. El área se compone de bosque montano en distintos estados de sucesión.

Other biodiversity Sin información
Management considerations Actualmente, la tala y quema de bosques para intensificar la agricultura y ganadería son actividades que están comenzando a tomar fuerza en la zona.
Protection status El costado norte del área, en el municipio El Retiro, se tiene como una reserva, mientras que el costado sur, está protegido como cuenca del río Medellín. Toda la zona que cae hacia el río Negro-Nare está bajo protección de CORNARE con uso restringido de la tierra.
