Site description Se encuentra ubicado en el extremo oriental del departamento de La Paz, en las provincias Bautista Saavedra y Franz Tamayo, dentro del Área Natural de Manejo Integrado Apolobamba (antes Ulla Ulla). Es un área bastante poblada, cerca de 34 comunidades habitan en la zona (SERNAP 2000). Las principales actividades son la cría de camélidos y la agricultura de mediana intensidad.

Other biodiversity En el bosque nublado destacan especies amenazadas como la Queñua (Polylepis racemosa, VU) y otras más (SERNAP 2000). Entre la fauna se destacan el Oso Andino (Tremarctos ornatus, VU), la Taruka (Hippocamelus antisensis, DD), el ciervo Odocoileus virginianus, el Venado Petizo (Mazama chunyi, DD), Gato Andino (Oreailurus jacobita, EN) y Puma (Puma concolor, NT), entre otros (SERNAP 2000).

Protection status El área está protegida por el Sistema Nacional de Áreas Protegidas de Bolivia. El ANMI Apolobamba fue declarada como Reserva de la Biosfera por la UNESCO en el año 1977.
