Ornithological information The site holds the only viable population of Tetrao tetrix in the country.
Site description An area of forestry plantations and dry heathland, located between the villages of Nijverdal and Holten. Forest stands consist of deciduous/mixed woodlands and conifer plantations of various ages and under varying management regimes.

Management considerations Blocks of conifer plantations have been felled in order to increase the area of heathland, thereby benefiting Tetrao tetrix.
Protection status National Partial International None2,321 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Sallandse Heuvelrug, 2,321 ha). 907 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Sprengenberg, 907 ha).
