Ornithological information This is an important roost for geese Anser from surrounding feeding areas. Waterbird numbers quoted are rough estimates.
Site description A freshwater lake (former peat-workings) and extensive wet meadows (Akmarijp) located to the east of the city of Sneek. The site is adjacent to Lake Sneekermeer and Goingarijp (058). This site, together with site 058, formed part of a single, larger site (former site NL022) in the previous pan-European IBA inventory (Grimmett and Jones 1989).

Management considerations Wildfowl hunting disturbs birds. A compensation scheme is in place for those farmers affected by restrictions on agricultural practices.
Protection status National Partial International None420 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (De Terkaplesterpuollen, 420 ha).
