Other biodiversity The Janthiel conservation area is home to at least ten of the eleven Leeward Dutch Antilles endemic subspecies of birds that breed on Curaçao. An impressive bird list has been assembled for the area, including such rare and endangered raptors as the White-Tailed Hawk and Crested Caracara. Other endemics of the Leeward Dutch Antilles are well represented amongst the reptiles and land snails.
Protection status This site, totalling 310 ha, was legally designated as a conservation area in the island development plan for Curaçao, as ratified by island government in 1997. The owner of most of the property has requested Carmabi to manage the area and financed the writing of a management plan (Debrot and Pors 2001). Government has approved the plan and the local stake-holders (hotels and resorts surrounding the lagoon) would like the plan implemented
