Ornithological information An important feeding and roosting area for ducks and waders. Four species of geese fly in to roost during winter from an extensive feeding area in Germany and the Netherlands. Large numbers of Recurvirostra avosetta nest inland, but the young are often not able to move to the feeding areas of the Dollard.
Site description An estuary with saltmarshes and intertidal mudflats; the site includes a small artificial lagoon located just at the inland side of the dyke (Polder Breebaert). The Dollard estuary is partly located in Germany, and this site lies adjacent to the Wadden Sea (site 001) and to Emden Harbour in the German part of the Dollard.
