Site description This site, comprising the eastern half of Terschelling island in the Wadden Sea, and being contiguous with site 007, consists of an extensive area of intertidal mudflats, raised saltmarshes, sand-dunes, and cord-grass Spartina swards, and lies adjacent to site 001. The area is protected from the North Sea by a sand dyke, built at the beginning of the twentieth century. This site, together with site 007, formed part of a single, larger site (Terschelling, former site NL005) in the previous pan-European IBA inventory (Grimmett and Jones 1989).

Key Biodiversity The area is an important feeding area in spring for Branta bernicla and is used as a high-tide roost by waterbirds that feed in the Wadden Sea. Platalea leucorodia and Larus fuscus breed in important numbers.
