Ornithological information The site is important for wintering ducks and geese. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aythya nyroca (wintering), Haliaeetus albicilla (non-breeding).
Site description Two freshwater lakes in an area of hills and mountains.

Management considerations The main threats are water abstraction from Lake Vegoritida (`Other' threats) and pollution of Lake Petron (`Other' threats). Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
Protection status National Partial International NonePart of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Ampelia/Amyntaiou, 2,500 ha). 440 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Maniakiou, 440 ha).
