Site description La región del centro de Veracruz está formada por una "extensión" del eje neovolcánico al este del volcán Cofre de Perote, que parte la Planicie costera del Golfo en dos mitades. Con el único manchón de selvas bajas en la vertiente del Golfo (exceptuando la parte norte de la Península de Yucatán), la región tiene adicionalmente 18 tipos de vegetación y una variación de pisos altitudinales de 0 a 4400 msnm en una distancia lineal de aprox. 85km.Justificacion

Key Biodiversity El centro de Veracruz es una región crítica (cuello de botella) para aprox. 236 spp migratorias Neotropicales de relevancia a escala mundial. Posee además poblaciones de unas doce especies de aves endémicas o de distribución restringida, y cuatro de las 19 especies de aves enlistados para México en el libro rojo de la IUCN. Posee ademas el 34% de las especies de la NOM-059. en total se tiene un listado de 432 especies de aves, de las cuales el 72% son residentes, 19% invernantes, 8% transitorias, 1% ocasional (lista de aves obtenida por: Sergio Aguilar, Jorge Montejo, octavio Cruz, Rafael Villegs, Cesar Tejeda, Sandra Mesa, Adrian Alvarez y Hector Cano.)
