Sites - Important Bird Areas (IBAs)

General characteristics 

These small islands lie off the western tip of Borneo in the Indonesian province of Kalimantan Barat, and the Secondary Area also includes Burong Island off the mouth of the Lupar river in the state of Sarawak in East Malaysia (see map, p.484). They support one restricted-range species, the threatened Silvery Wood-pigeon Columba argentina (classified as Vulnerable). This is principally a species of forest on small islands, found on islands off Sumatra and Borneo (in Secondary Areas s103, s105, s106), but it is occasionally recorded on the coast of both of these islands and birds suspected (but not confirmed) to be this species were widespread and seen in large numbers in southern Sumatra in 1989 (Verheugt et al. 1993). It is believed to be threatened by forest loss, disturbance and hunting.
