The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation

The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation (Mauritian Wildlife) is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) whose mission is to save endemic Mauritian and Rodriguan fauna and flora, undertake research on how to restore and manage the ecosystem, share the results with the general public and protect the native species’ future. The organisation is known for having saved most bird-species in the world, works as consultant in restoration techniques and runs ecotourism and CSR activities.

The Mauritian Wildlife is an IUCN Member, a BirdLife International Partner and forms part of several other International alliances such as the Botanical Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) and the Alliance for Zero Extinction.

“Coming from the land of the Dodo, Mauritius is famous or infamous for the demise of what is now the icon of extinction.  However, we have since saved more birds from extinction than any other country in the world, with the Mauritius Kestrel, Pink Pigeon, Echo Parakeet, Mauritius Fody, Rodrigues Warbler, Rodrigues Fody becoming references for conservationists worldwide.  The lesson from Mauritius is that if species can be saved here, they can be saved anywhere else.”

Dr Vikash Tatayah – Conservation Director, the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation
