Erzhan helps locate important new staging site for Sociable Lapwing in Turkey

On October 10th, 554 Sociable Lapwings were located in central eastern Turkey – the largest flock of migrating Sociable Lapwings encountered so far this autumn marking the discovery of an important new staging site.

Osprey ringed in Germany found shot in Malta

An Osprey ringed in Germany by NABU (BirdLife Partner) as part of a conservation project was recovered by the ALE and BirdLife Malta (BirdLife Partner) yesterday afternoon, shortly after being illegally shot in the Salina Bird Sanctuary.

Bird Migration on the Bihar Plain in Hungary – Video

A new documentary film entitled ‘Bird Migration on the Bihar Plain’ has been produced by the Wings Over Wetlands demonstration project team in Hungary. The film documents the importance of the Bihar Plains as a breeding, wintering and stop-over area for hundreds of thousands of migratory waterbirds, highlighting the role played by the fishponds found in the area as a source of food and as an important place for the birds to rest during their often long and arduous journeys.

The presentation was given during the official launch of the CSN Tool on 14 June 2010 at an International Waterbird Conservation Symposium which took place in The Hague, the Netherlands to mark the 15th Anniversary of the African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbird Agreement (AEWA).
