Seed diversity in need of help – sign the letter

(c) Ariel Brunner

The current EU legislation on Seed and Plant Propagating Material (S&PM – part of the Common Agriculture Policy) is widely damaging the environment. Among others, it has contributed to a massive loss of biodiversity in European fields over the last decades.

Also, the seed production system tramples on the consumer’s capacity of choice, by avoiding their access to diverse varieties of products.

In reaction, European Civil Society Organisations from all fields (environment and biodiversity conservation, health, organic breeders, suppliers, farmers, gardeners, seed savers, consumer cooperatives and consumers) prepared an open letter directed to all the MEPs and the commissioners who have a real power of decision in this legislation process.

Through this letter, they call on the decision makers to remove obstacles to the marketing and exchange of seeds of old, rare and farmers´ varieties, to enhance diversity and sustainability in European agriculture and better meet consumers´ demands.

You can make a difference!

Take a stand for an environmentally and consumer friendly S&PM regulation: add your signature to the open letter here. Thank you in advance for your support!
