Fact sheets on threatened and migratory birds
As part of educational materials for schools in South America, a series of posters has been produced to celebrate the World Bird Festival in October. The seven poster-size fact sheets highlight conservation achievements as well as the plight of seven threatened or migratory species in the Americas.
The first, available here, looks at the Black-breasted Puffleg (Ericonemis nigrivestis), a Critically Endangered hummingbird only found at three locations in the High Andes in Ecuador, of which, two are on the slopes of the Pichincha and Atacazo volcanoes.
Aves & Conservación, the BirdLife partner in Ecuador and also the Species Guardian for the Black-breasted Puffleg, has been working to conserve this species throughout its tiny range, through a series of projects within BirdLife’s Preventing Extinctions Progamme.
