Eagles are large birds of prey which are members of the bird family Accipitridae and belong to several genera which are not necessarily closely related to each other. Most of the more than 60 species occur in Eurasia and Africa. Outside this area, just two species can be found in the United States and Canada, nine more in Central and South America, and three in Australia.
Below is listed all the members of the eagle family.

Hi…I’m in Alexandria, VA. We pass an Eagle nest in a tree on the GW Parkway right outside Old Town Alexandria every day when I take my 8 year old to school. There is a traditional looking (forgive me for not knowing the species) Eagle there occasionally. Today March 6 we were thrilled to see another bird with him/her. Now my eyes are pretty bad, but this one looked brown with brown splotches. I didn’t see a white head. What’s going on in that tree
