BirdLife International is working with like-minded institutions and communities in Africa to ensure that adaptation measures are put in place to address climate change. BirdLife in Africa identifies climate change as one of the key priorities in the 2009-2012 Conservation Programme. Current initiatives are giving emphasis to:
- Improving resilience of key biodiversity areas (IBAs) in Africa against the impacts of Climate Change;
- Working with communities to build resilience to Climate Change;
- Developing an Adaptive Management Framework for species, ecosystems and people in Africa;
- Advocating the incorporation of best practices into national adaptation policies and strategies;
- Building capacity at local and national level for Climate Change adaptation;
- Promoting scientific modeling to improve understanding of the dispersal of species under various Climate Change conditions
- Knowledge sharing through Africa Climate Exchange – a one stop website on Climate Change and biodiversity in Africa.
