NatureLife Cambodia

NatureLife Cambodia is a national conservation organization, established with support from BirdLife International and financial support from the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund. NatureLife was founded with 12 members, of whom 10 were former BirdLife in Cambodia core staffs. All enthusiastic founders have in common the strong conviction that BirdLife’s mission, “ To conserve the biodiversity by managing natural resources sustainably for the benefit of all”, can be implemented by Cambodians.

The wetlands of Kampong Trach are one of Cambodia’s most important sites for wintering Sarus Cranes, however decades of agricultural encroachment and pollution have left it highly threatened. BirdLife partner NatureLife Cambodia have been working closely with farmers to turn things around in a project that has shown promising early results for this enigmatic species.

Giant Ibis

Of the 13,000 lmportant Bird & Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) identified by BirdLife worldwide, 277 are most severely under threat. Vital sites, such as Cambodia’s Lomphat Wildlife Sanctuary, are home to globally threatened birds such as Giant Ibis and other IBA ‘trigger species’. They face the most intense pressures and need our urgent help.

For a suspenseful three years, Lomphat Wildlife Sanctuary seemed doomed. But now, changed policies, changed hearts and a new organic rice scheme promises hope for the forest landscape’s villagers, businesses and giant birds.
