Department of Environment Logo Competition Rules

The Department of Environment Montserrat has announced a logo competition with a prize of $500 USD on offer. Here are the details of the competition.
The Department of Environment, Montserrat invites you to participate in a logo competition that would capture the goals and objectives of the Department. The competition is aimed at increasing the public’s awareness of the responsibilities of the Department and promoting the artistic and creative abilities of individuals on Montserrat and elsewhere. The winning design will become the property of the Department of Environment and will be used on official stationery, posters, websites, brochures and advertisements associated with the Department.
The Department of Environment is the agency for (i) the direction and implementation of policy, (ii) management of the environment and associated activities and (iii) provision of professional advice on environmental matters. Specifically the Department’s portfolio includes environmental assessment and monitoring, climate change, biodiversity conservation, invasive species management, Multilateral Environmental Agreements and providing a supporting environmental framework for sustainable development. The Department also provides support, coordination and facilitation to organisations and agencies across the public, private and civil society sectors.
The competition is open to all, except employees of the Department of Environment and their immediate family members. Multiple submissions are allowed.
DETAILS & REQUIREMENTS:
Each entry must include full name, address and contact details.
The logo's concept should be simple and clear and be able to stand alone without text or incorporate the title “Department of Environment”.
Entries may include a brief explanation of how the design depicts the goals and objectives of the Department.
The logo should be clearly readable and retain its readability and reproduction quality when increased or reduced in size.
All entries should be sent via e-mail or other electronic format to firstname.lastname@example.org. or to the Department of Environment in the Ministry of Agriculture, Brades Montserrat W I. Files should be .Al, .EPS, .GIF, .PGN or other compatible vector formats. The deadline for submission is 4:00 p.m. on Monday 31 October 2011.
Entries will be judged based on Originality, Memorability and Appropriateness, Simplicity, High Craftsmanship and Typography.
Originality – Should be original and should not seem to mirror existing logos.
Memorability and Appropriateness – Should stand out among others and be easily identifiable with the Department.
Simplicity – Should not be graphically intense making it difficult to be reproduced in a cost effective manner. It should not rely heavily on embellishments or useless polish. Though simple, it must be bold enough so that it can be scaled up or down without losing detail.
High Craftsmanship – The designer should use clean sharp lines and curves and demonstrate command of the media used.
Use of Colour – Should not rely on more than three (3) colours. It should also look good if reproduced in a single colour.
Typography – Should be appropriate and legible through all scales.
All entries shall become the property of the Department of Environment, Montserrat and entrants will be bound by the Terms and Conditions of ownership set by the Department. The winning design may be modified for printing and presentation purposes, but without altering the original concept. The winner will be contacted and advised how to collect his or her prize.
The winner will receive EC$ 1,500.00.
